The Adventures of Bill and Stephie Henkel

Fun Times with Great People

The Atkinsons:  Richard and Betty Atkinson (right).  Richie and Betty live in Hamburg, Pennsylvania on  HopePryde Farm, a great Pennsylvania Dutch farm with a trout pond, horses, chickens, peacocks and other assorted animals.  They have converted the summer kitchen into a Bed and Breakfast suite, and serve fantastic breakfasts.  If you go, stay a couple of nights so you get to sample Betty's amazing Eggs Benedict or Pecan French Toast casserole.  ( See their website for more info: HopePryde Farm)

                  Fun Visiting Friends continued

The Oehlkers's.  Meredith and Bob live in near Madison, Wisconsin on Monona Lake.  Bill and Bob have been friends since elementary school when they lived next door to each other in Secaucus, NJ.  When our travels took us near their area last summer, we stopped for a few days to visit.  Bob and Meredith love to show off Madison, and we were treated to a visit to Madison Museum of Modern Art as well as a walk through the wonderful Olbrick gardens in the city.

Right:  Barbara Palhoff.  Barb and Steph have been friends since we both worked at  Cornell University.  She now lives in Boynton Beach, Florida.   Barbara drove out to meet us while we were camped on Lake Okeechobee near Clewiston, and spent a nice day together catching up on our lives.

Left:  Clewiston bills itself as 'The Sweetest Town" because of it's sugar industry.  You could smell the sweet smell of burnt sugar in the town to prove it.  The main street was dotted with Old Florida art deco buildings like this movie theatre.

Right:  Marie Gile and Stephie have been friends since the 5th grade in Deleware Township, New Jersey.  How wonderful it was to spend 10 days in Myrtle Beach in January 2007 at the same time that Marie and Harvey were there and have a chance to renew our friendship (and play lots of "Hand and Foot").

Left:  Marie and Harvey took us to Frederick Meijer Gardens and Sculpture park when we stopped in Lansing, Michigan in July.  Marie grows orchids, and we particularly enjoyed seeing the orchid greenhouse.
